The First Community Weaving Group from village Mu 1, Phanat Nikhom district, Chonburi has been producing various wicker objects such as bamboo basketry, rice steamers, rice boxes and home decor products for years. However, this year they have entered the annals of history after making the biggest wicker basket which in the Thai language is called “pom”. The basket is 2.11 meters tall, with 2.54 meters circumference of the base. This giant bamboo pom was a brainchild of Mrs Prani Munphala, one of the organisers of the village craft festival. The work of art has been conserved, and future generations can see the basket at the handicraft center in Baan Khun Pranee.
